Show your support for Denise Kawaii's new book!

Well, isn't this embarassing? I haven't updated this blog in a LONG time. Here's a quick update: Biocide, Book Two of the Adaline series launched! We had a big party, and lots of fanfare. It was great! Now, a new book is on the horizon. My memoir - Woman With a Thousand Hats. It's coming out New Year's Eve and I'm so excited / horrified to be putting my story out there. The story of who I am and where I come from is littered with turbulent times, lots of humor, and a few "What was I thinking?" moments. My beta readers have had lots of lovely things to say about it so far, and I can't wait to release it to the public. Speaking of releasing the book - that's where I need help! This time around I'm running a Thunderclap campaign to help push Woman With a Thousand Hats into viral internet territory. It's the easiest social media campaign platform I've tried so far. All you do is click the button for Facebook, Tumbler or Twit...

Biocide (Book 2 of the Adaline series) is coming April 29th!

It's taken a while, but Biocide is finally on the horizon. The first books are printing, the Kindle edition has been formatted (and you can pre-order it now ), and peace and wonderment reign over the bookland. Here's a little bit about Biocide: Boy 1124562 passed his first test. Can he survive the next? When the Boys graduate from C.A.T., they are moved to a facility where new challenges await. At first, it seems like 62's new home comes with more freedom than he's ever had before. It doesn't take long for him to discover that the troubles of his past are nothing compared to the danger that awaits. In his new home, 62 meets a Boy with no number who defies every truth in Adaline. Unsure if he can continue to follow the path that Adaline has laid out for him, 62 discovers that trying to make his own way comes with consequences far beyond anything he's ever imagined. The  Biocide release party is booked, and you're invited! Please join me April...

The 2nd Edition of Adaline is LIVE!

Guess what? I've been writing. Biocide, the second book in the Adaline series is in the final stages of production. I'm editing the manuscript now, and hope to have the book in print and ready for your bookshelf in just a few weeks. I'm so excited for the production of Biocide, that I just had to give Adaline a facelift to keep up with the direction that the series is going. There's a new cover, a couple of new sentences on the pages, and a nifty promotion for Biocide tucked into the back of the book.  The Adaline series is taking its next big step forward, and as always I have to thank you readers for helping me to take the leap. This is my first time with a series and my first second edition. Many thanks to all of you for your patience, understanding and enthusiasm as I continue to write. The upload is so fresh that I'm still waiting for Amazon to link the listings - so if you're looking, here are the links: - Paperback $12.99 - Kindle $2....

Read for Roughneck! Help Raise Money for Medical Care

Read for Roughneck! Learn how your love of books can help provide needed healthcare for Denise Kawaii's husband. View this email in your browser Mr. Kawaii, aka "Roughneck", crafting at his workbench. Please Read To Raise Money for a CT Scan and Meds. It has been a long few months. Mr. Kawaii, AKA "Roughneck", began to have flu like symptoms this summer following closing our family owned store. His illness has gotten progressively worse, with symptoms that would make even the most staunch horror fans squirm. Let's just say that his body has stopped properly digesting food, he has lost nearly 60 pounds since August, and although the doctors suspect Crohn's Disease there hasn't been any marked improvement with treatment (Western or Natural medicine - we've tried just about everything). Roughneck is currently on leave from work and spends most of his time resting, researching and having lab tests done. Even with insu...

A long post about life...

There is a tent in my living room. That is the basic truth that illustrates how life is going right now. A tent in the living room to distract my son from the fact that we are shuffling his furniture around the house, ripping up the carpet and replacing the floor this weekend. It is a moment of whimsy in an otherwise chaotic time. Something needed as much for its entertainment value as for its practicality of a place to sleep while the furniture stands on its side. I feel like most of my blog posts say something like, "A lot has been going on..." or "Things have been crazy..." and those sentiments are more true now than I think they have ever been. I feel like a broken record, waiting for the operator to change vinyl to something a little faster and upbeat. But the needle keeps re-setting to the same worn place on the record. Scratchy and out of tune. The last four months have been a daily dose of stress and strain. Through August and September, Mr. Kawai...

How To Market Effectively

Tomorrow morning I am heading out for a book signing in Hillsboro, Oregon at Jacobsen's Books & More. I decided to use this opportunity to try out my new Adaline Meal Replacement Unit giveaways to see how they do to drum up interest with passers by. As someone in sales (and if you are an author as well, you're in sales, too) I have tried a variety of ways to increase visibility for my books. From Goodreads book giveaways to running ads on Amazon , I've been trying to get the message out there to readers that Adaline is worth reading. In the book, Boy 62 doesn't eat food. Instead he and his brothers are given meal replacement pills and nutrient filled liquid. I decided to play off of that for these cute little give aways for events. They were simple to assemble, and I really like the way they came out. I designed the stickers and had them printed at VistaPrint  and attached them to tiny zip top bags from Uline that are just slightly larger than the stickers...
