Would you survive?

I'm sure you've wasted away at least 10 minutes taking one of those "Would you survive the zombie apocalypse" tests on Facebook (or more than that if it said you'd die so you took it over again to get a better result). I know I have! If you really want to see if you have what it takes to make it through the hoards of undead though, you have got to read the Until the End of the World series by author Sarah Lyons Fleming.

Until the End of the World follows Cassie Forrest and a handful of her friends as they discover the zombie outbreak, escape Brooklyn, and make their way to her parent's cabin (and beyond) in a fight for survival. They not only face the challenges of surviving pods of hungry Lexers, but also must fight to survive through the naivete of city-dwellers and the threat of bandits.

Full of action, friendship, and a host of useful tips on how to learn real-life survival information, Until the End of the World and the books that follow it are a must-read for anyone interested in homesteading, sustainable living, outdoor survival and farming. If you've got a city-slicker who you want to introduce the concept of bugging-out to, give them these books!

I have now read Until the End of the World, So Long, Lollipops, and the most recent installment, And After. I've gotten more attached to the characters with each book and can't wait for Sarah to publish more. I know when you start this series you're going to be clamoring for more, too.

Still not convinced? Here are links to my reviews:

Getting Ready...

... for my very first author appearance in November. It's exciting! It's nerve wracking! It's a great opportunity! It's terrifying! It's going to be a great way to kick off the holiday season! I've got some books on order so there will be copies of both Age/Sex/Location: Love is Just a Click Away and A Giraffe In The Room available for sale. This is my first step into taking my writing on the road - maybe 2014 will include a book tour if this goes well...?

True Midnight Ramblings

Ah, July.  Normally a time of constant celebration, this month has been especially trying and filled with sleepless nights and wandering days.  I am looking forward to August when friends return from far off places, grief will be a little closer to subdued, and life will begin to return to normalcy (I hope). In a fit of sleeplessness spurred from a sorrow filled day on the horizon, a late-night emergency and lots of random thoughts and feelings I decided to hover around the internets a while until my eyes start to feel a little more heavy.  I had received a notification that there have been some updates here on Blogger/Blogspot and so I decided to check them out now that I am left with very little to do for the next 8 hours or so. You may notice that this blog, as well as my other two blogs ( A Smaller Bottom and Meet Your Marker ), has received a sudden face-lift.  I was really surprised at the new backgrounds and customizations on the templates toolbar, and had a lot of fun putt

Becoming a Featured Contributer

A lot of growth has been seen on the writing front these last few weeks.  As I mentioned last week, I have been accepted as a writer for Examiner.com  but I've also seen some great forward movement in my other writing.  As Associated Content has become merged into the Yahoo! Contributer Network , I decided to go out on a limb and apply for one of their featured writer positions.  I am happy to announce that I have been accepted as a Featured Travel Contributer!  What this means for me is more consistent writing assignments, more money (hopefully) and greater exposure on the web.  I'm very excited by this, even though it is taking me some getting used to the new content guidelines that Yahoo! has put together.  I'm sure that with practice I will catch on soon though. For a quick trip through the travel articles that won me my Featured Contributor title, please feel free to click the links below.  And the next time you're looking for a vacation, give one of them a try!
